Soap is my absolute favorite luxury item. I love fresh flowers, lovely hand creams and good quality wine (more than $10 a bottle – ha ha !), but aromatic, indulgent soaps are my number one fav!
A good friend of mine sent me a link a while ago to a Marie Forleo interview with Regena Thomashauer, AKA Mama Gena. I’d never heard of Mama Gena before, so was intrigued to watch it. The title was Women: A Bold Approach To Reclaim Your Power. Since my health was not great at the time, and I was at a bit of a low point, I settled in to watch it.
The interview is all about embracing the feminine and allowing yourself to experience pleasure. One of the things that really stood out for me, was when she talked about how stressed women get, and that it only takes small pleasures to make you feel good again and to relieve the stress. For example “taking a moment to feel the sunshine on your face” or “having a hot hot shower with your favorite bath gel“. This really captured my attention, so I decided to get out some gorgeous soaps I had been given as a gift, but had never used, as I was doing the classic ‘saving them for a special occasion’. What was I thinking!
Since then, I have spent a fortune on soaps, every craft market I went to I would buy a beautifully handcrafted soap, and if I saw any divine looking soaps in the shops – I had to have them!
The best soap I have found so far …
So far, I have found 2 beautiful brands of soap, and they are both made in New Zealand. So many of the handmade soaps I have tried go kind of like jelly after they get wet, or they irritate my skin. But these 2 are hands down the best I have tried.
Saba Soap and Body: I’ve tried a few, but my favourites are Ylang Ylang, and Clary Sage and Pine. They are quite masculine scents, but are just gorgeous. The texture of the soap is lovely, and they also last a while.
I believe good quality, beautifully scented soaps make a really lovely gift. So treat the lady in your life with a little bit of inexpensive indulgence!
